Victoriana

Victoriana, originally uploaded by light_arted.

Built in 1870 and paid for by local mill owner Hugh Mason, this building was one of the first and largest municipal swimming baths. The building is constructed almost entirely of brick, with some stone decoration. It was built in a Byzantine style and has a 120 feet high tower which housed the flues from the steam boilers and heaters.

Soacha enmarcada

Soacha enmarcada, originally uploaded by chocolate buttons.

Soacha, the place where I work, nearby Bogota. I love this view because it represents beauty through hardness. Too many houses, too many people, too many dreams, too little money, too little space.

Courtyard Doors

Courtyard Doors, originally uploaded by sigma..

This place is pretty big. Lots of halls and rooms. Its almost shaped like the letter E but there are areas that are just open with walls on all sides. This is one of the doors to the courtyard. I never went to shoot outside because of the rain. This building is filled with documents. So many plans and rolls of schematics. Almost like a time capsule in here.

If you decide to go down these stairs..your choices are.. the courtyard, or the basement...

World Ceasefire Vigil

World Ceasefire Vigil, originally uploaded by carf.

During the last week I’m sure there are many visitors to the Flickr photostreams who have noticed all the small black ribbons that Flickrites are now using as their buddy icons. Those icons represent more than just another Flickr identity, they represent a strong desire for world peace and a stop to the recent war breakout, by the many who have chosen to wear them for this peace action, an important action against yet another war to destroy thousands of innocent citizens, their families, their homes and their countries.

This is why over 4000 Flickrites decided to unite their actions this last week in a group called MUNDO UNO

…and the group is constantly growing as one of the fastest and most
meaningful on Flickr.

* MUNDO UNO means ONE WORLD.
* MUNDO UNO is a call for peace.
* MUNDO UNO is a virtual protest against the madness of the war.
* MUNDO UNO is a way to say: stop the killing of civilians in both sides.

Shall we be ONE, one world, one face, one people to change this?

I hope and believe so and that is why I am asking you, my Flickr friends and contacts and anyone else visiting this Blog, to be part of this important action for World Peace.

Please join us today and take part in the group's CEASEFIRE action in
support of Amnesty International's WORLD CEASEFIRE VIGIL.
More information about this can be found in the group's discussion
threads.

I thank you and I'm sure our group members thank you.

Paint It Black

Paint It Black, originally uploaded by Karl Harrison.

I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
I see a line of cars and they’re all painted black
With flowers and my love both never to come back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a new born baby it just happens every day
I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door and it has been painted black
Maybe then I’ll fade away and not have to face the facts
It’s not easy facing up when your whole world is black

Ghost town church (abandoned)

ghost town church (abandoned), originally uploaded by bealluc.

This abandoned church is in the ghost town of Dorothy, Alberta. There are two churches there, maybe a hundred feet apart. We arrived in Dorothy with maybe twenty-five minutes of sunlight remaining to the day -- an excellent time for photographing.

If you're in the mood for more badlands & ghost town photographs, you can look at the full set, click here.

My friend Bonedad also had his camera with him and he took some astonishing photos of the badlands sights which you can see here.

Forsaken by Intel

Forsaken by Intel 2, originally uploaded by Crochunter.

A view into the partially finished Intel Building in downtown Austin. During the tech boom of 1999-2000 a number of tech companies expressed their desire to build new offices in downtown Austin and one of them, Intel, actually broke ground on this building. However, when the bubble collapsed, everyone abandoned their efforts... and unfortunately 5 years later this eyesore is still a part of our downtown area. This view shows the top of the structure, looking the same as when it was abandoned in 2001.
